A container bridge, dubbed the “Econtainer Bridge” is being built in Israel. The Hiriya waste dump is being converted into a 2,000 acre Ariel Sharon Park. Access to this new park will be provided by the new container bridge.
The bridge design shows it will be two containers wide and cross the Ayalon River for pedestrians and bikes. Various lookout points and an observation roof deck will be included. The bridge will have natural light as well as solar panels to provide electric lighting.
The company is reporting that they will be able to do 70% of the work on the container in their factory because they can modify the containers before moving them to the bridge site.
Both the containers being used in the bridge and the waste-dump-turned-park are examples of repurposing materials and land to green uses.
